The Company You’ll Join

Carta is a platform that helps people manage equity, build businesses, and invest in the companies of tomorrow. Our mission is to create more owners.

Carta is trusted by more than 30,000 companies and over half a million employees in nearly 150 countries to manage cap tables, compensation, and valuations. Carta also supports over 5,000 funds representing over $100B in assets under administration with their venture capital solutions. Carta’s liquidity solutions have returned $13B to shareholders in secondary transactions. Today Carta’s platform manages over two trillion dollars in equity for nearly two million people globally. Companies and funds like Canva, Tribe, and Pipe build their businesses on Carta.

The company has been included on the Forbes World’s Best Cloud Companies, Fast Company's Most Innovative list, and Inc.’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies. We’ve also been recognized as a 2023 Built In Best Place to Work in the U.S. and a Muse VIBE Award winner in the Vacation and Time Off category.

The Team You’ll Work With

This role is on the Tax Platform team. The Tax Platform team is a collaborative and passionate group of professionals that includes product managers, engineers, designers, customer support and sales. We’re united by a common mission to create more owners and simplify equity management. We place a high premium on experimentation and validated learning and we focus on being values and mission-driven, not didactic or prescriptive. We are biased toward action and believe in build -> measure -> learn.

Our development philosophy closely mirrors Agile Scrum, but we are not afraid to deviate from it. We care about solving customer problems first and engineering problems second.

The Problems You’ll Solve

Getting Taxes right is paramount as Carta creates more owners. Your work will directly impact our customers from private to public companies from employees of companies on Carta to administrators of these companies. You’ll be responsible for helping our clients manage IRS compliance (e.g. forms 1099-B, 3921, 3922), ensuring that we are meeting obligations to the SEC and FINRA and that the tax withholding calculations for transactions, from private transactions to public stock sales, on Carta are accurate. Your work will unlock multiple markets for Carta as we increase our liquidity business.

About You

You deeply care about your user and are relentless in your pursuit to build enterprise grade applications. You are energized by solving deep problems collaboratively and can easily transition between a Solver and Tech Lead archetype. Additionally:

  • You have 5+ years of full-stack experience building production systems.
  • You have experience in architecting complex SaaS products with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and/or event driven architecture.
  • You are passionate about some elements of our tech stack (Python, Django, React, TypeScript, Kafka, K8s, Docker, AWS, gRPC)
  • You have a desire to become a product domain expert and are able to refine sometimes ambiguous product requirements to deliver customer value.
  • You are a strong communicator that can communicate with different stakeholders and meet them where they are.
  • You are an active participant and have a strong analytical opinion and position on how software should be engineered.
  • You are eager to move fast, but recognize when to build for the future.

Most importantly you're excited to work on a product that will fundamentally change the way private companies view Taxes on Equity.

The Interview Process

Our team believes that interviews are a two-way process and we strive to make them enjoyable without any “gotchas.”

The interview process starts with a call with a member of our recruiting team who will tell you more about the job and the company. Then, you’ll meet the engineering lead for the Tax Platform organization, who will walk you through the specifics of the position, the team structure, what we’re looking for, and of course, answer any questions you will have. This interview will last 45 minutes. Then, there’s a technical pair programming interview where you’ll be working on a practical problem in the tax business in the language of your choice with one of our tax platform engineers, your future team member. Finally, we will schedule you for another four or five meetings with other team members to discuss everything from Carta’s culture to cross-team collaboration and what you can expect, and what is expected from you.

Salary

Carta’s compensation package includes a market competitive salary, equity for all full time roles, exceptional benefits, and, for applicable roles, commissions plans. Our minimum cash compensation (salary + commission if applicable) range for this role is:

  • $190,000 - $250,000 in San Francisco, CA or Santa Clara, CA

Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on geography, candidate experience and expertise, and other factors.
